After a busy morning in the home office, at home in the kitchen, at work, or perhaps even after a very comfortable morning reading the newspaper, your body not only needs something to eat and drink, but also exercise to loosen up the monotonous postures that lead to cramping and get the body fit again. Just a few effective exercises help to loosen and stretch the muscles, promote blood circulation, banish tiredness and get you mentally fit again.

But how is it that man stands on his feet without falling over? How can they walk without going off track? Like our entire body, our feet are equipped with a multitude of sensors. ;

So what do fasciae have to do with the foot? Everyone is talking about them, but they are also shrouded in mystery. And what function do they actually have?

At the moment, many of us have to stay at home, even though the sky is blue and the sun is shining. It's not easy and our feet don't like it either. Like our whole body, they need exercise. What can we do?

Georg Friedrich Wilhelm Hegel disliked the high mountains: "The sight of these eternally dead masses gave me nothing but the monotonous and boring idea that this is the way it is," noted the philosopher during a crossing of the Alps. As a lowland dweller, he "always longs for expansion, for extension, and his gaze always bumps into rocks." Poor man, no views, just always these rocks.

At BÄR, we naturally pay a lot of attention to your specific foot shape - is it narrow or rather wide, do you already have individual changes to your feet (bunions or hallux, for example) or is everything still naturally shaped. And then consider the time of day when you buy your shoes. Feet are generally thicker and slightly longer in the evening than in the morning.

Welcome to Bär! I would like to tell you something about the parts of the body that Bär covers in various articles in this blog over the next few months: The feet! Don't worry: this is not intended to be a medical lecture, but it will provide you with important information about the structure and function of your feet and thus make it easier for you to choose shoes for your feet that are functional, comfortable to wear and therefore comfortable.

First of all, what does the foot have to do? The foot connects our body to the ground and initially forms a stable standing surface. For walking and running, it acts as a flexible shock absorber, cushions the heel strike and at the same time forms a rigid locomotion lever to enable a powerful push-off from the ground for locomotion. With its skin, which is covered with many sensors of different types and qualities, the foot can feel the ground and tell the body what the ground is like so that the entire musculoskeletal system can react accordingly.

In my last blog post, I explained the bony structure of the foot. Today, the focus will be on the movement of the foot, the biomechanical interaction of the individual elements of our feet. When it comes to dynamics, i.e. walking and running, the so-called arches of the foot play a special and important role. The term arch of the foot is used below.
