Most hikers think that the Rheinsteig is the best way to experience the Loreley. That is wrong. On the left bank of the Rhine, where we are hiking, on the World Heritage Trail or the Rheinburgenweg, you can see the striking slate rock much better. I also give my Light Rock hiking boots from BÄR a break and a look at the Loreley. The shoes have really given their all on the often rocky ground of the hiking trails.
A traditional stop-off at the Günderodehaus above Oberwesel. The half-timbered house was dismantled beam by beam in the Hunsrück and transplanted to the Rhine. There it served as the backdrop for Edgar Reitz's Heimat 3 series.
Our fantastic tour ends in Oberwesel, the town of towers and wine. If you still haven't had enough, you can hike on to Bacharach via the beautiful Schönburg castle. I am a total fan of the Deutschlandticket. From the metropolitan regions of Cologne and Frankfurt (and the BÄR branches located there), you can get to St. Goar and Oberwesel by train quickly and virtually free of charge.
