The high quality of the leather

BÄR quality starts with the material - leather as an ideal, sustainable product for BÄR shoes
Is leather still a contemporary raw material today? You may be asking yourself this in view of the many alternatives and even vegan materials. We at BÄR say "yes"!
This striving for perfection and the high quality standards as well as the love for the material make a BÄR shoe unique. We only use hand-picked leather hides and skins. Selected tanneries refine our cowhide and calfskin. We source suede exclusively from experienced specialist tanneries. We know our suppliers personally and know that the highest value is placed on environmental and climate protection.
"Leather is a high-quality and durable material. What many people don't know is that leather is a by-product of the meat industry and is therefore upcycled. No animal has to die for one of our shoes or belts," says Christof Bär. "It would be rather criminal not to use the leather. There are countries where leather is incinerated and thus becomes a waste product. That is anything but sustainable. Leather has been unfairly criticized because it is a very durable and breathable material."
At BÄR, the appreciation and longevity of the material and the product is absolutely paramount and we support our customers in maintaining our shoes with the appropriate, environmentally friendly care products, our 3-year guarantee and our BÄR repair service. All shoes can be resoled and refurbished right down to the laces so that they can start a second round of life.
