RTL royal expert Michael Begasse gives tips for an impeccable outfit
Michael Begasse has been a presenter, producer, reporter and commentator for radio and television for more than 25 years. He presents good entertainment with fun, light topics that give the audience unforgettable minutes and hours. The journalist can regularly be seen in various TV formats on RTL, NTV and VOX. His appearance plays a very important role in this. In the following interview, he reveals why this is the case, what his personal royal highlight was and much more:
- How did you become an RTL royal expert?
As a young television journalist, I realized that millions of people are fascinated by the royals, but that we at RTL didn't even have the royals regularly in the program at the time. From the very beginning, I was interested in the people under the crown who take on this life job and put their own happiness at the service of their country. I still find that impressive today.
- What was your personal best royal experience?
The wedding of Meghan and Harry in Windsor in 2018. I was at the castle and really close to it. There was so much love in the air.
- Who of the living royals would you like to meet and why?
I've been pretty close to a lot of royals in the long time I've been an RTL royal expert. But one person who has always slipped through my fingers is Queen Silvia of Sweden. A chat with the only German queen would be very nice.
- You are known for your impeccable outfits and your special style. How important is your appearance for royal reporting? And is it okay to be casual in your private life?
I've followed the outfit motto right from the start: The viewer must have the impression that I've just come from tea with the Queen, am doing the interview briefly, but will return immediately! That's how I dress, with a lot of joy in fashion. I'm never seen on air unshaven or without a tie. I can sometimes wear good (clean!) sneakers with a suit, the shirt doesn't always have to be white, but it always has to suit me and my topic. But in my private life, I dress casually and sportily.
- Which items of clothing from head to toe should be in every man's closet?
Every man, whether 20 or 80, needs a well-tailored dark suit and a crisp white shirt. No need for a tie. The shoes are important! Black or dark blue, but polished and without worn heels. Brown or a muted green can also be suitable, depending on the styling. You can recognize the stylish man by his shoes, the guy who doesn't dress up but feels comfortable in his outfit. And don't forget the matching belt!
- You have also presented in BÄR shoes before. What was your first impression?
Mega-comfortable, perhaps not suitable for every suit leg due to the wider and rounder shape. The trouser leg must be very narrow, because then the Bär shoe makes a strong statement. Mega with jeans - so also in my free time.
- What do you think is so special about BÄR shoes?
The 100% toe freedom! Some shoots take a very, very long time. And it's really nice not to have to squeeze your feet into shoes that are too tight.
