INNOVATIONS OF THE NATURAL CREPE SOLE!
Natural crepe soles - if you are not yet familiar with this type of sole, you are probably thinking of a very fine, unstable texture that literally dissolves in water and does not stay alive for 2 weeks. Quite apart from this, there is also the question of how crepe should be applied as a shoe sole! BÄR proves that crepe is very suitable as a sole and also has many special features.
The natural crepe sole is a unique variant that impresses on all levels, from its sustainability to the feel and durability of the material. With a 100% vegan material and low-energy production, the natural crepe sole is a strong alternative to normal rubber soles.
Unique properties that give you a completely new walking sensation:
- The natural crepe sole offers unique cushioning with low abrasion and a long-lasting duration
- The sole proves to be extremely durable, non-slip and natural rubber is even biodegradable
- The water-repellent and breathable material makes the shoes feel safe to wear - all day long
- Unbeatable slip resistance on ice! With the right grip, no path will be too icy for you
- Can be combined with any outfit, both in combination with jeans and a suit
- Immediate reforestation and the use of crepe remnants make the material particularly sustainable

The manufacture of the sustainable product
Current environmental events such as severe storms, massive flooding and the disappearance of ice glaciers have once again demonstrated how important it is to address the issue of the environment and sustainability. BÄR would like to play its part in this by sourcing materials from nature and continuing to accept the issue of sustainability as a challenge. Sustainable design provides answers to all the major challenges of our time and changes people's way of life. It is foreseeable that products and services that make this possible will become established. This is where design and responsibility meet. In any case, the trend is clearly towards natural materials!
So the term crepe doesn't just mean a lightweight papier-mâché that disintegrates immediately, but a 100% vegan material that is obtained and processed from trees!
The latex milk is processed under high hygienic standards to ensure the purity of the product. As soon as the liquid coagulates, a viscous mass is formed, which is pressed into a thin and fine rubber layer using a roller. The dried rubber layers are placed on top of each other until they reach a thickness of 10 mm and are then fused together so that they adhere well. The soles can now be punched out of the crepe sheets.
The production of natural crepe soles is extremely time-consuming, complex and requires enormous expertise. The rubber is extracted at the Kelani Valley Plantation in Sri Lanka. Founded in 1992, Kelani Valley Plantation PLC (KVPL) owns and manages 13,000 hectares of plantation land and produces three million kilograms of rubber annually from an area of 4,500 hectares.
Due to the authenticity of the material and the 100% natural extraction of the material, the natural crepe sole may show some changes.
• The frame around the sole may become discolored
• Over time, small fringes (pillt) form on the edges, which prove the naturalness of the sole.
• The natural coloring of the welt - just like the crepe - darkens and takes on an individual patina.
• The sole will become discolored over time due to normal dirt - can be cleaned with water or Bamboo Lotion.
• As a natural product, the rubber reliably adapts to the ambient temperature, which is why the sole may appear firmer in winter and softer in summer
